Shake Budapest up! – Infected Rain, Lacuna Coil & Eluveitie concert review

“Look, what I found” – I received this message back in January 2018 when my best friend discovered Infected Rain. “I know that you prefer these all-screaming things, but this one is very intense” – she added. The song was Orphan Soul. After this conversation, I listened to that song for days and it became my favorite Infected Rain song.

Last year I was quite lucky and I had an opportunity to do an exclusive interview with Lena Scissorhands (if you want to check it out, just click here). But I wasn’t that lucky enough: I have been waiting for months to finally see them live, but I was very sick so I couldn’t manage to stay during the whole concert, I heard one or two songs maybe, but I was so unwell so we had to leave early. You can imagine that how much I waited this concert and then… I was sick again! But this time I didn’t care, I decided that I want to see them finally. Well, we were a bit late and this time we missed the first 3 songs (no further comment, lol…). Actually, when we were on our way to the show I was thinking about how the bloody hell the show is not sold out yet? I just didn’t understand! But the interesting thing is that when we arrived, there was still a line at the entrance (which is quite a rare thing) despite the fact that the show wasn’t sold out. I still don’t understand why it wasn’t, because when we stepped into Barba Negra the place was almost already full, so I decided that I will go up to the VIP section. Actually, I was very sad that I couldn’t participate in mosh pit and fun things like that.

But let’s go back to the main topic: the concert! It’s very rare when Barba Negra is almost full during the first support act, but it wasn’t quite surprising that Lena and the whole band has quite a stable fanbase. I love them so much, but the sounding was terrible (it wasn’t their fault at all!), I only hear the drums and sometimes Lena’s vocals but the growls we’re completely lost. In spite of all the difficulties they did a great show, Lena is such a great frontwoman and she always does her best to entertain their fans. However, I felt like they were a little bit nervous or I don’t know… I mean, last year when they saw them, they didn’t have a label yet, they were quite free, a boss of their own. Maybe it’s the pressure? Or I don’t know… But this time I felt them different, they weren’t as free as they used to be. But maybe I’m wrong and they were just exhausted because of the long tour… nevertheless, I can’t wait to see them again!

The next act was Lacuna Coil. Actually, I know that they are very popular, and I tried to get them to know more, I even started listening to them but…. it just didn’t come through. I had hoped that this concert will change my mind and it definitely did! They are so great, theatrical and powerful during their live performance! Cristina is just a pure goth diva, Andrea is powerful and the whole band was so communicative with the crowd. Actually, for me they are the band which is more interesting to listen to and watch at the same time. After the concert, I tried to just listen to them but the feeling, the vibe just didn’t work out for me, but when I see a concert video then it’s completely different. I really wish that they will come back to Hungary very soon because they are the band which I definitely want to see rocking again!

The last band of the night was Eluveitie. When they were in Barba Negra back in 2017, we had to leave early and didn’t have time to enjoy their concert, and this time we were unlucky also, because of my sickness we had to leave after a few songs. Such a shame! As long as I saw they were magical and finally the sounding was okay (yeah, I forgot to mention that the sound was off during Lacuna Coil too), so it would be a perfect night. I really hope that next time I will FINALLY have the opportunity to see their whole show because they definitely deserve the attention.
