“Rising above a ‘snake’ whether it’s an illness or a bully at school” – Introducing: Above Snakes

After years of living in the filth among shady, ego-driven villains Johnny Skulls and Dax Dabs decided they weren’t going to take it anymore. It was the dawn of a new day. Following orders and getting in line was now a way of the past. They packed their bags and made their way back to Boston, destined to rise above and create their own future.
Last July, the band released their debut single, “Adrenaline,” to over 45,000 views on YouTube, along with Spotify placements on Loudwire’s Weekly WireHopeless Records’ Moshed Potatoes, and Pandora’s New Rock Now Playlist, to name a few. They followed up “Adrenaline” with “Never Alone” on Halloween 2020, which quickly garnered 50,000 streams on Spotify with placement on Spotify’s “Rock Hard” and another spot on Loudwire’s Weekly Wire. Working with producer Kile Odell (FozzyThrough FireAwake At Last), “Never Alone” is the second chapter of the forthcoming EP by Above Snakes. We had a quick chat with Dax Dabs of Above Snakes.

Beginnings:

Johnny Skulls and I met years back touring in different bands, both from Bostonoriginally but living in Los Angeles at the time, we actually ended up living together in LA and during that time started writing and demoing for what would become Above Snakes. We officially launched back on July 16th with our debut single “Adrenaline” to over 45,000 views on YouTube and this past October released a new single “Never Alone” which now has over 60,000 streams on Spotify!

Behind the name:

Above Snakes means living above ground and still kicking, we’ve both dealt with so many egotistical people in past bands and got tired of the bullshit, which made us want to start our own project. It also can signify rising above a “snake” whether it’s an illness or a bully at school.

Inspiration:

We listen to so many different bands that have inspired us over the years! Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Blink 182, Papa Roach are definitely the favorites.

Inspiration behind the upcoming, debut EP:

Just being in the studio with Kile Odell was a great vibe! It was a chill room we were working in and we all got along great making it a great experience! Excited to go back into the studio with him in March!

Fire, Catchy, Heavy, Powerful, Energetic

Describe your upcoming EP in five words!

Teamwork:

Johnny skulls and I will write together usually starting with a riff or drumbeat that we’re really stoked on and the magic just starts to take over from there!

COVID-19:

It’s definitely been strange! But we’ve been getting by, writing nonstop, shot a music video for our second single “Never Alone” with Adrienne Beacco and Jake Jones, did a photoshoot as well so I’d say we’ve been managing!

Online concert:

We’d definitely like to try! Some bands have done some amazing ones such as AVOID! We’ve loved their online performances!

Thank you so much for speaking with us! Look out for new music from us in February of 2021!
