Since the release of their 2018 debut studio EP, One In The Chamber has been compared to the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Velvet Revolver, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Mötley Crüe. Entirely independent, dirty rock & roll straight from the heart of Toronto.
Previously, One In The Chamber has released their award-winning and celebrated 2018 debut studio EP, I’ve Got Something To Say…. The EP has racked up over 100,000 Spotify streams along with international radio play.
Since forming in 2015, the band has tirelessly performed throughout Toronto – including performances at The Horseshoe Tavern, Adelaide Hall and The Opera House – and across Ontario, along with an international performance at The MGM Grand, Las Vegas and their 2019 summer tour culminated with their sold-out Indie Week Festival debut opening for The Wild. This time we had an opportunity to do an interview with the band’s drummer and vocalist, Gerrod Harris.
“Cecil Eugene and I were both jazz students at York University, and he had already met Mike Biase, our singer, through a different show. After a few months of jamming and writing, we found our bassist in Christian Dotto, a friend of Cecil’s from high school.”
“One In The Chamber is about recognizing you only truly get one chance, and you’re going to make sure you make it count.”
“We each come from such different musical backgrounds. Myself, I’m a big classic rock fan (The Stones, Aerosmith, Zeppelin) but I also love ‘90s alternative rock and grunge-like The Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. Mike primarily comes from a classic rock background, Christian is a big metalhead, and I can’t even begin to get into all the expected and unexpected things that Cecil likes, and doesn’t like.”
“Writing has become a very organic and collaborative process between the four of us. When we first formed, Chris and Cecil would bring in almost complete songs, but by the time of our debut EP, we were each bringing in much more unique, incomplete ideas that came to life at band practice.”
“I say it all the time, and I’ll say it again, as a musician, it is fantastic to write, record, and perform with such an unbelievably talented group of artists. It absolutely helps during the process of making music as it allows for us collectively to push our writing to a spot that we think is unique and our individual performances to a position where we can each be proud of.”
“I remember getting the masters and being blown away – it was one of those ‘holy shit… that’s us’ moments. It’s amazing to have our work compared to some of our most revered heroes. Currently, we just released our brand new single and music video for “Blow”. The early reviews have already mentioned comparisons to GNR, Stone Temple Pilots, Mötley Crüe and Led Zeppelin and we’re beyond proud of how the track came out.”
