“This one goes straight to your face” – introducing: Knife

Forged in the hot winds, tempered by the shrieking sounds of Hades, a blade made of immortal steel rose from the depths to vindicate the souls of those who obey the true sound of metal. Ferocity, power and speed. Metal like a hammer blow! Knife is unleashed!

Knife was founded by Laz and Bronson (aka Vince Nihil) in late 2019 with the goal to play fast and wild metal. The German band released its debut tape “Black Leather Hounds” which features the first singles “Sword Loser” and the title track via Metalworld Switzerland in early 2020. Meanwhile, the line up has been completed. By mixing all of their influences from classic hard rock, heavy metal to first wave black metal and punk, Knife delivers a wild and nasty metal sound, willing to take the world by storm. And after such a prolog, please welcome the guitarist, Laz and the vocalist, Bronson on MyTouche Blog!

Beginnings:

Laz: When we founded the band in 2019, Bronson and I had been playing together in a Punk’n Roll band for nearly 18 years. So we know each other very well. But working lately turned out to be very stressful since we all had different approaches to what the band should be and sound like. During that time I was thinking about starting something new and more metal. A sound that is much more suitable for Bronson’s voice. Meanwhile, Bronson had already started thinking about lyrics that were much more appropriate for a wild metal act. To me, it is very important not to think about unnecessary things too much. We had this problem with the other band. So it was time for a re-start.

Bronson: Besides from being the vocalist in that rock band, I had already recorded an EP with a thrash metal act called N.W.B. so I knew that I am able to deliver some harsher vocals. So by combining all this, the new band Knife was born.

Behind the name:

Bronson: After the first ideas came up, we thought about a name that fits the music. It was supposed to be short and easy to be remembered. Of course, there are some other bands with that name, but I think that Knife is the best name for our sound. Nothing cuts you more like a knife than…well a knife!

Laz: I immediately liked the idea of a simple name. This one goes straight to your face.

Inspiration:

Laz: I get my inspiration from many different sources. Of course, there are musicians and bands that inspired me and my style of playing guitar, but I am also inspired by music, lyrics, or pictures. Even the guitar that I use might be an inspiration.

Bronson: Well, I have been listening to all kinds of (hard) music for nearly 30 years. Many of these artists have been inspirational. Obviously, I’m into nearly all kinds of metal but mainly heavy, speed, thrash and old school black metal, but I’m also a fan of punk rock. It’s not only the music but also the no-bullshit attitude of many bands that really impresses me. You can also find this attitude in the Swedish action rock with bands like The Hellacopters and Turbonegro. The bands that inspire our Knife sound are Venom, Motörhead, Exciter, Discharge, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ramones, UK Subs, Mercyful Fate, Slayer, and many-many others. Too many to mention. Our lyrics are inspired by horror movies, crimes, religion, and…metal!

Bronson: When we have the structure of a song and the lyrics we arrange them together. It is possible that we change and rearrange songs until we are satisfied. When the basics of music and lyrics are done the other instruments are added. Of course, the other musicians in the band also have input on the songs.

Teamwork:

Bronson: The fact that Laz is a great guitarist and songwriter helps us a lot. He has so many ideas and – a very important aspect – no musical limitations. So it is possible to have Maiden leads and Ramones riffs in one song and it fucking fits. We all know what we can do and what we can not do. This is very helpful since we can play to our strengths and we do not waste time on things that are unnecessary.

Present & Future:

Bronson: Our first tape “Black Leather Hounds” has just been released via METALWORLD and thus the planning of further releases has begun. We have already written a bunch of songs which need to be arranged and finished. Hopefully, we will start with the recordings of the album at the end of 2020 so that we can promote it live in 2021. It will be a wild mixture of speed metal, punk, black and heavy metal. I think the music on our tape “Black Leather Hounds” shows quite well what you can expect.
