Canada’s Lutharö unleashed their sophomore EP “Wings of Agony” this past March. More innovative and imaginative than their debut EP “Unleash The Beast“, Lutharö stepped out of their comfort zone for “Wings of Agony”. Their catchy riffs, blazing solos, and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans are sure to send a chill down your spine, making them a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression, and skill to the genre.
The backstory: Lutharö is a heavy metal band from Hamilton Ontario. The band started back in 2014 as a fun project based on the love of heavy metal music and quickly developed into something very serious and driven. Victor Bucur and Krista Shipperbottom were brought together first in high school starting the band. After playing a couple of shows with the original lineup, they were introduced to John Raposo who shortly after joined in 2016. Chris Pacey joined in 2018 as a new bass player after seeing Lutharö open for Unleash the Archers in Toronto. Last but not least Duval Gabraiel being Lutharö’s newest member, joined the band in 2019 having big shoes to fill on drums with the release of “Wings of Agony”.
Here’s our interview with the voice of the band, Krista.
Behind the name:
The name “Lutharo” is an elvish word meaning “the enchanter”. It was chosen because of our love for “Lord of the Rings” and fantasy-based genres.
Inspiration behind “Wings of Agony”:
There was a lot that went into the inspiration behind “Wings of Agony”. Mostly raw emotions and wanting to succeed as musicians. We are currently working on a new full-length album however, the rest remains a secret.
Describe your EP in five words!
Sinister, energetic, powerful, dynamic, authentic.
The process of our songwriting usually begins with a single riff or a skeleton of a song then each member will contribute their own ideas to it. We believe every band member bringing their own unique ideas to a song is what makes our sound so dynamic.
The music industry has definitely taken a huge hit since the beginning of COVID-19 and we are absolutely devastated that we cannot play any live shows for the time being. However, during this time, we have been focusing really hard on writing a full-length album and reaching out to our fans on social media as much as possible.
The number one fun fact about Lutharö is that no matter where we are as soon as we are doing anything band related there is always horrible weather.Fun fACT
